The Big World Team Doug Paterson is a master sound designer, confident and experienced in every aspect of his craft, and is proud of his reputation as a relaxed, easy-going guy who gets great results. As a musician he understands the creative process, and he knows the importance of timing and rhythm. Carl Ragan likes to say that he’s evolved into an award-winning composer the long way – through a variety of musical experiences. His eclectic approach to film score has met with great success. Recent highlights include the CBC sci-fi cult hit Code, which received a Leo nomination for best musical score (2002). I Am My Father, Anik Films’ 2001 feature drama, won four awards in the New York Independent Film Festival. In 2005, The Zero Sum premiered at the Whistler Film Festival as a Borsos Award finalist. Background Doug Paterson founded Big World Sound in March 1991 in order to provide a nurturing environment for burgeoning songwriters and bands. The studio’s early success culminated in its relocation to Downtown Vancouver in 1993. Doug constructed a brand new studio from the ground up, and secured the contract for the film score for Beyond Borders: Redwood Films highly regarded travel documentary. Other producers were quick to hire Big World to compose scores, and the company moved into sound design and audio post-production in 1999.
